Tips to Improve Reading
- Read for at least 15 minutes every day.
- Reading advertisements and flyers.
- Read a short article or blog and write a summary of it.
- Look for news stories on the internet.
- Learn a new word every day and write it down in a notebook.
- Use your new words in sentences and review them every day.
- Make flashcards with common sentences or questions and practice them.
- Use a picture dictionary to label things you use every day and put the labels on things around the house.
- Read signs on the street, in the store, or around town.
- Visit the library and borrow books and magazines.
- Read a map and learn street names in your neighborhood.
- After you read, ask yourself “Who, What, Where, When, Why” to better understand the text.
- Review your notes at home after every tutoring session.
