Two months ago, a young mother came in to enroll in our free reading program. She had her precious new baby sitting in a car seat beside her on the floor.
Like we do with all of our learners, we asked her,
“Why did you come to Turning Pages?”
So she said,
“The other day, I was trying to read him a baby book, but I couldn’t. I broke down and cried because it was too hard. That’s when I knew I had to do something. I need to learn to read…”
She paused, looked down at the car seat trying not to cry, and added-
“For him.”
The pain and emotion in her voice were palpable, and we knew we had to help her in every possible way.
We are committed to helping moms get the education and support they need to be the best moms they can be for their kids.
