COLUMBIA SC – Are you among those who feel they have a book in them — and want to write it? Local authors will show you how they did it – and how you can, too – during Authors for Literacy at the main Lexington County Library, 5440 Augusta Road (US 1), just east of downtown Lexington, on Saturday, December 10.
Visit with authors, browse their books during the Meet & Greet from 2 – 4 p.m., then sit in on an authors’ panel starting at 4 p.m. The authors are Carole Sellman, Bonnie Stanard, Arthur Turfa, Pat McNeely, Halina Schafer, Lisa Cole, Jerry Bellune and many more.
The local authors will also autograph their books for those on your Christmas gift list. Their books make memorable and unique gifts.
Believe it or not, more than 50,000 people in Richland and Lexington counties are functionally illiterate. They can read a little but not much. Authors for Literacy, Lexington County Library, Sign It Quick, Lexington County Chronicle and other sponsors team up each year to host this event for Turning Pages adult literacy council whose trained tutors teach adults to read and write better through free personalized, one-on-one tutoring.
