Two Reading Tracts
Our Foundational and Challenger tracts both follow the Roadmap to Reading: Sounds > Phonics > Fluency > Vocabulary > Comprehension. Tutors self-select assignments and meet with their adult learner for 24 one-hour weekly sessions. Our Curriculum Kits help tutors give the personalized, one-on-one help learners need to raise reading skills and gain confidence.
Commitment and Eligibility:
- Commitment: 24 one-hour weekly sessions. (6 month minimum)
- Eligibility: High school diploma (18+) plus a passion for education.
- Location: South Carolina’s Richland County, Lexington County, or Aiken County
- Key Traits: Sensitivity, confidentiality, patience, and the ability to relate to diverse backgrounds.
New Tutor Workshops:
- Mandatory before picking up an assignment.
- Covers adult education basics, curriculum kit use, and tutoring tips.
- Free for enrolled tutors in Richland County, Lexington County, or Aiken County.
- Once matched with a learner, you’ll receive Tutor 8 reference manual to keep.
Assignments:
- Assignment e-blasts are sent over email each month.
- Tutors self-select the assignment they want.
- Weekly sessions are at the libraries throughout Richland County (13 locations), Lexington County (10 branches), as well as Aiken County Public Library.
- Pairs meet one hour per week for 24 sessions.
